New Exide Orbital Battery

After 5 years exactly I thought it was time the Prado had a new battery. I spent a bit of time searching for a suitable replacement, something with a bigger capacity, but not too big in dimensions.

I settled on the new Exide Orbital, which appears to be very similar to the Optima battery.

A slight modification in the battery wiring and it bolted up nicely. At around 700CCA the Prado’s starter motor is spinning faster than it ever has.

This isn’t a cheap battery, but has lots of power and plenty in reserve.

It is important to know the position of your front and rear differentials as they are usually the lowest point of your vehicle. Similarly, any other low ground clearance points should be noted e.g. exhaust, spare tyre etc. When a large rock or other obstacle is on a track that you must drive over, you should ensure you avoid driving directly over it with the lowest ground clearance point of your 4x4.
