Old Man Emu Suspension & GVM Upgrade for LandCruiser 200 Series

After an exhaustive development program and months of field testing by ARB’s specialised Old Man Emu engineering team, integrated suspension systems and GVM upgrades are now available for the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series.

Upon examining the original suspension, engineers found that an improvement of the vehicle’s load carrying abilities should be their top priority. The system also needed to encompass all the benefits that OME suspension provides, including an increase in ride height to both minimise under-body damage and maximise the wheel articulation when off roading.

An extensive range of front and rear coils was developed using new steel materials that offer greater resistance to sagging and corrosion, while still maintaining the performance and durability OME coils are renowned for. The huge range available allows for varying ride heights and coil rate options, giving 200 Series owners a suspension package specifically tailored to their needs.

Improved shock absorber valving to control these higher OME spring rates was also a vital part of the package. Extensive field development work involving hundreds of hours of road testing was carried out to ensure that the specific valving in the struts and shocks would provide significantly better ride and handling.

Combined with the wide spring selection, this investment in development work has ensured the 200 Series suspension range will provide vastly improved load carrying ability, as well as optimum ride and control performance in all terrain.

To further augment the Old Man Emu suspension range available for the 200 Series, recent approval from the Department of Transport and Regional Services has been granted to increase the GVM on new vehicles prior to registration. The approved ARB 3580kg GVM upgrade allows an extra 280kg to be loaded onto the 200 Series, addressing the issue of carrying capacity for owners who undertake extensive off road travel.

All our Old Man Emu licensed fitters receive regular training on new products and fitment, ensuring the best possible service and advice, and all suspension packages come with a 2 year/40,000km warranty supported by a network of outlets around the country. Driving Technique With a mental picture of your route, or better still, with markers in place, and all your vehicle preparation done, its time to start the crossing. Before you enter the water, remember to take off your seat belt and wind down your window. Using low range second gear at 1500-2000 rpm (for most 4x4's) creates just the right bow wave. Its important to get the speed just right as too fast will send water everywhere while too slow may flood the engine bay. Hopefully you follow your markers and get to the other side with no problems. But if you do strike problems avoid using the clutch as this may allow water to get between the friction plate and the flywheel, resulting in limited drive. If the wheels start to slip, its important not to over-rev the engine but back-off the accelerator and hope the wheels regain traction. Excessive wheel-spin will not help. If the engine stalls, put the vehicle in neutral without using the clutch and attempt to restart. If luck is on your side the engine will fire up. Now is not a good time to wish you had already disconnected the fan belt, as your engine bay will be flooded. Its normally best to use 1st gear low range and with a minimum of clutch usage, try and extricate yourself from this predicament.
