Hi,
We are currently running 265/75 x 16 Goodyear Wrangler MTR’s on the Prado, but for quite a long time I have been wanting to put 33″ tyres on to give just that bit more lift.
The big problem with the Prado in doing this is that the front tyres will rub on the lower rear of the front wheel arch when turning.
Now everyone says “why not fit a 50mm body lift”, but in all honesty, I reckon this is mucking about too much and I could be running foul of the law.
So how can we do it, well firstly by fitting 255/85 x 16 tyres. These are 10mm narrower than the 265 we now currently run and unlike the 285’s will show less resistance to rubbing.
I have also had the castor done for quite a while now, but can only get about 3.5 degrees positive castor, without mucking up the cambur.
So here’s what I reckon is the answer – get a set of lower bushes made up with offset centres. If I work it out right I should be able to get a bit more positive castor without sacrificing the cambur setting.
Oh, by the way, for those that are wondering what the positive castor actually does, well it moves the wheel forward a fraction, and this fraction with the 255’s should be enough clearance.
I’ll let you know the progress.
See you out there!
