I'm a Big Roothy Fan - But

G’day,

I was just watching the latest 4WDACTION DVD from the mag.  In this one Roothy (who I love) took Milo down to Tassie and hit the bush with a couple of young guys in their Patrol.

Everything was fine until the Patrol got stuck, so Milo had to snatch them out.

Now this is where it all went horribly wrong.  Roothy with all his years experience went 4WDing in a vehicle that shouldn’t have been anywhere near the bush.  He admitted on air that he knew the rear recovery points were knackered on Milo.  So what did he do?

Simple, wrap a tree trunk protector around the rear bar of Milo and then connected the snatch.  the Patrol was recovered, but a while later Milo died.  Roothy had broken the body mounts on Milo and had the body sliding on the chassis.

There’s just one simple rule when you’re a 4WDer, if your vehicle isn’t 100% right, DON’T GO.

His actions not only mucked up the trip for himself and the lads in the Patrol, but we as viewers missed some more promising action on the DVD.  What’s more, what could have happened if both vehicles were deep in hell country?

So please, if your 4B isn’t 100% fit, think of your mates and hitch a ride for the day.

See you out there!

Tip:

When using the 4x4's brakes hard, your vehicle’s front suspension compresses and you ‘use up’ most of its suspension travel. When braking heavily to avoid an obstacle e.g. pot hole or rut, and you cannot stop in time, release the brake pedal just prior to hitting the obstacle. This will allow the front suspension to return to its normal height and give more suspension travel when hitting the obstacle.
