Bit of a pain in the A hole week chasing down parts for the patrol, namley brake parts. I had ordered a master cylinder rebuild kit, Quotes cheap. little did i know this was the start.
so with the master cylinder kit on it’s way a though i should do the brakes front brakes that have not been working at all for the last 6 months. well if i put new rotors on i may as well do wheel bearings and swivel hub bearings and seals (had the hub kit for 2 years LAZY i know)
I got quoted from bursons 60 a rotor. got a better price else where. 2 rotor and pads
Put it all together, and my mastercylinder kit is not in so I bung the old one back in. bleed it all up and low and behold i had brakes, Marvelous invention brakes are. 3 days later I went to pool comp and no brakes the master cylinder leaked really bad, Bit scary in the wet, locked the backs up coming down a hill and kicked me side ways:confused:
Went to burson the next day to pick up parts, not there and to find out i had been quoted for a clutch master cylinder, the brake one retails at 0 he could do it for Shows the mark up on parts, he could do a new master cylinder for 0, retail a lot more.
Got thinking and went to price up master cylinders to find that an early gq one was cheaper on evil bay then the the mk one, so i went down to repco, who said they have no part number for mq/k , only GQ thought it should fit and is a little bigger in bore then the mk one so ordered it in .
So I thought if it has new fronts, and master, i might go to the back as i have been driving round on just back brakes for 6 months, they might need doing, yeap steel. so price up drums and shoes for shoes 100 for the drums, so i orderd them as they would be in the next day, only to get a phone call that they would be late next week and she stuffed the price up 0 a drum not a set. so i went looking round for a good set of drums found some in near new condition, thank you spares.
Had to get shoes, repco had some in stock, Got them for (see the Mark up again!!!!!) ask about drums He said he would have to order them in retail 0 WTF he could do for . did not worry about it, had good drums..
So now i have fix the front cailpers up cleaned and greased, new pads and discs, new rear shoes and good drums and the new slaves from the drums out of my old diff were new not that long ago, So pretty much new brakes, Wow I have a patrol that stops brilliant i tell you brilliant.:D
Bit of a saga and i long winded story but thought i might tell every one about it.
Fixed brakes Stops
new swivel hubs and wheel bearing Shakes nearly all gone
and early GQ masters fit MQ/K Little bigger so helps with braking effort and cheaper, late model will fit to but it is dearer and might be i little to large in the bore???
thats it I’ll try and remember to put picks of disc and rear pads and drums.

Tip:
Engine Bay Protection<br> Placing a tarp across the front of the 4x4 minimizes water entering the engine bay by creating a bow wave, provided forward momentum is maintained. The result is less water for the radiator fan to spray over the ignition system, less chance of water entering the air intake and less likely for the fan to propel its way up to and through the radiator. Diesel 4x4 's are usually better for water crossings as you do not have the ignition system to worry about. Water in the ignition system usually results in a stalled engine and not actual engine damage, though this is of little comfort when you find yourself stuck in the middle of a crossing. Depending on the water depth, its advisable to climb out of your window rather than open the door and flood your carpets. To minimize stalling from a wet ignition, it's a good idea to spray all the ignition system with water repellent beforehand.
