There are modified 1.9L VW TDI motors making over 300hp. There is lots of aftermarket support including larger turbos. I don’t think power will be a problem.
Tip:
Servicing on a 4x4 is normally at more frequent intervals, especially if you are involved in real 4WD work with lots of low range, river crossings or particularly dusty conditions.
