JK Build Phase I

August 14th, 2010 · 7 Comments

Over a 2 month period the stock JK Unlimited Rubicon was stripped of the axles and the control arm brackets were removed from the frame. A set of Dynatrac ProRock 60′s were installed under the jeep with 5.38 gears and ARB air lockers. A set of Walker Evans 17″ Beadlock rims were mated to some 37×12.5R17 Goodyear MTR w/Kevlar tires. I must say that with these really beefy axles, I should not have to worry about bent axle tubes, busted shafts, or the knuckles bending in with larger tires. The Tereflex 4″ Long Arm “LCG” kit has an amazing ride quality

Water crossings can provide some of the most exhilarating and challenging 4WDriving around. They can also prove to be the most expensive! A 4WD is not an amphibious vehicle, in fact they are not even waterproof. The actual depth that you can cross depends on your vehicle. For example, a stock LandCruiser may be submerged at the depth a raised Hilux doesn't even wet the door sills. As a general rule, if its above the top of your wheels its probably too deep. A water crossing should not be attempted by inexperienced or ill-prepared 4WDrivers. Prior to a water crossing, it is a good idea to place your recovery gear on top of other luggage. The last thing you want to do is be searching under your fridge, tents and luggage for your recovery gear when you are stuck in the middle of a crossing.

@jeep138 Because, this was my daily driver and I sold my TJ to build this jeep when my family (2 kids and a wife) no longer fit with the camping gear. So, I sold the TJ and built my DD to handle offroad and still be able to drive to work the next day. Not to mention that I got good money for the D44′s!

why spend extra money on a rubicon if you are going to swap the axles, suspension, tires and wheels? i know it also has a 4 to 1 xfer case, but swapping a four to one would most likely be alot cheaper than the price difference between a non rubicon and a rubicon. seems like a waste of money just to get a 4 to 1 and rubicon hood decals
