www.ctvvancouverisland.ca http SPROAT LAKE – Four individuals are lucky to be alive Tuesday after surviving a eight-hour overnight trek back to safety after getting stuck while by 4x4ing near Sproat Lake last night. The four took to the back roads on the south end of Sproat Lake near Snow Creek camping ground Monday evening. The truck they were using got stuck in the waist high snow. That’s when the lone male of the group, a 42 year-old Port Alberni Man, elected to leave the group and try and hike to safety. He spent the night working his way back to his home and eventually made it at around 7 AM. He than called RCMP and the Alberni Valley Search and Rescue was called in to look for the three women still with the truck. However, about 30 minutes after the search was initiated the three women, all in their 20′s and all from Port Alberni, were located at a rest area off Highway 4 on the western tip of Sproat Lake. It was later revealed that they too spent the night hiking out of the back country. The three women spent the day recovering from hypothermia at the hospital.
