ACT - Brindabella National Park - Mon, 24 Aug 2009
Location Brindabella National ParkClose to Canberra, this trek covers an area riddled with steep zigzagging climbs and descents accessible only by 4WD. In fine weather, it's a fairly easy drive, but in winter it becomes more challenging with rain and snow.

Location Boggy HoleFinke Gorge is located within the Finke Gorge NP south of the West MacDonnell Ranges in the Alice Springs region. The most popular attraction is Boggy Hole, a permanent billabong of the Finke River. This is a good 4WD route to Uluru and/or Kings Canyon.

Location Chambers PillarChambers Pillar is a natural sandstone formation used by our famous early explorers as a navigational point. You can still read their signatures and inscriptions carved into the rock. It is also a beautiful photographic subject in a remote 4WD area.

Location Gregory National ParkGregory NP is around 13,000 square kms comprising of two sections - a smaller northeast section along the Victoria Hwy and a much larger southern section between the Victoria and Buntine Highways. This trek, which is entirely in the latter, contains a network of rather challenging 4WDing in a very remote and scenic region, taking in famous icons such as the Bullita Stock Route.

Location Mereenie LoopLinking the West MacDonnell Ranges and the World renowned resorts of Kings Canyon and Yulara, the Mereenie Loop Road gives visitors to the Red Centre a chance to see some spectacular scenery, without the need for backtracking to the Stuart Highway. This route is more appealing than the much longer sealed detour and is as Australian as it gets, passing through some of the Northern Territory’s most spectacular countryside.

Location Simpson Desert Rig RoadThe Rig Road is the most southern access across the Simpson Desert. It is a longer route because it winds along the edge of dunes and crosses at the lowest points. Old clay-topped track is now eroding, but was once used for moving heavy equipment.

Location Simpson Desert WAA LineThis track is similar to the French Line and although it has smaller dunes, it is very picturesque especially after rain. While in this area take a look at the Knolls, which is a scenic but fragile part of the Simpson so please stay on the track.

Hikers will be rewards with 360° views of the ranges, surrounding plains and further west to the dry salt lake of Lake Torrens.
